| Abstract | Rudolph was hired as a consultant to develop a plan for a new library. He worked on site selection but never prepared any detailed plans for this project."I was Chairman of the Library Development Committee in the 1960s. (The four-member committee included the President of the Guilford Library Association as well as myself as Vice President.) Only one other member of the committee is alive today. Our "development projects" included an expanded library facility. Edith Nettleton's statement about the role of Paul Rudolph is correct. He investigated a number of possible sites for an expanded library, including the present one. He and the committee tramped around several, in bitterly cold weather. Legal property searches and negotiations with property owners led us to choose expansion of the existing library site. Ruolph sketched in detail his proposal for a new library building (s). If you like, I can send you a copy of his sketch. Local politics led both Rudolph and me to abandon our continued participation." |
